Thomas Mann, German writer and philanthropist, was born on June 6 (1875). His novels aren't the easiest to read; they include
Death In Venice, Doktor Faustus, and
The Magic Mountain. The latter is my favorite by him. It's protagonist is Hans Castorp. Mann was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1929 but probably not on June 6th. He died in 1955.
